Unveiling the mystery: Discovering the answer to “Why am I on earth?” through Faith and purpose

Have you ever found yourself gazing at the stars, pondering the purpose of your existence on this vast planet? The question, “Why am I on Earth?” is universal and has intrigued minds across generations. While this inquiry might seem complex, it is one that holds the potential to unlock deep insights into our lives. Through faith, introspection, and the wisdom of Scriptures, we can unveil the mystery behind our earthly presence.

Discovering the Purpose of Life on Earth

God knows you by name! He knows each and every person’s position on the surface of the earth. How do I know? because God says so: “The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the waters.” Psalms 24:1-2 (NKJV)

“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5 (KJV) This means God had a specific purpose and plan for Jeremiah even before he was born. God had already set him apart and chosen him to be a prophet, not just for his own people, but for all nations. This verse emphasizes God’s intimate knowledge and involvement in the lives of individuals, showing that He has a unique calling for each person.

Jeremiah may have wondered why he was on Earth and possibly asked himself, “Why am I here?” However, the Lord eventually revealed his purpose to him. Just like Jeremiah, you are not here by chance. God has a specific plan for your life, which is why you exist. If you desire to know what God’s plan is for you, ask Him, and I am confident that He will reveal it to you. He says, “Ask and it shall be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7). God wants us to seek Him and His plan for our lives. It may take time and patience, but He will guide us if we trust in Him.

Now, let’s learn how to live with a perspective that considers eternity and achieves our purpose. We will examine valuable insights from both self-reflection and sacred scriptures to discover our purpose and find fulfillment.

  1. Embracing Divine Intention: The Bible, a source of timeless wisdom, offers insights into our purpose. In Jeremiah 29:11, it is written, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” This verse highlights that our existence is part of God’s intentional plan, designed for our well-being and a future full of hope.
  2. Discovering Unique Gifts: Each individual possesses unique talents and gifts, contributing to the intricate tapestry of life. In 1 Peter 4:10, we are reminded, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” Recognizing and nurturing these gifts allows us to make a positive impact on the world, aligning with our purpose.
  3. Cultivating Love and Compassion: A fundamental aspect of our purpose is to cultivate love and compassion. In Mark 12:31, Jesus emphasizes the importance of loving our neighbors as ourselves. Our time on Earth is an opportunity to learn and practice love, kindness, and empathy towards others, creating a ripple effect of positivity.
  4. Learning and Growth: Life presents us with challenges and opportunities for growth. Romans 8:28 assures us, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Even in adversity, our experiences contribute to our personal and spiritual development, shaping us into better versions of ourselves.
  5. Connecting with Others: Human connections play a significant role in our purpose. Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 underscores the value of companionship, stating, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” Our interactions and relationships hold the potential to uplift and support us on our journey.
  6. Contributing to Creation: Genesis 1:28 reveals that we are entrusted with the responsibility to care for and steward the Earth: “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.” Our purpose extends to being responsible stewards of the environment and nurturing and preserving the world we inhabit.
  7. Eternal Perspective: The question of our purpose finds ultimate meaning in our spiritual connection. 2 Corinthians 4:18 encourages us to focus on eternal values: “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” Our earthly journey is a stepping stone to an eternal perspective.

In Conclusion: As we navigate the complexities of life, the question “Why am I on Earth?” can guide us to a deeper understanding of our purpose. Through introspection and the wisdom of Scriptures, we find that our existence is rooted in divine intention, love, growth, and meaningful connections. Embracing these insights can lead us to a life of purpose, impacting both our own journey and the world around us.
