You Are Chosen: Living a Life of Purpose and Integrity

Father, let your Word bless our hearts as we receive it. Bless everyone that will hear your word this morning. Spirit of God, teach us yourself. Bless our hearts as we receive it. In Jesus mighty name. Amen.

As Christians, we often grapple with our identity and purpose. However, the Bible provides us with a clear understanding of who we are in Christ. Today, we’ll delve into the profound truth that you are chosen by God, exploring the significance of this divine selection and how it should shape our lives.

You Are a Chosen Generation

1 Peter 2:9 declares, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” This verse underscores the unique and privileged position we hold as believers. You are chosen not just for your sake, but to fulfill a purpose that transcends your lifetime. The impact of your life will resonate through generations, a testimony to God’s glory.

The Significance of Being Chosen

1. Chosen Before the Foundation of the World

Ephesians 1:4 reveals that God chose us in Him before the world was created. You are chosen not by accident but by divine design. Out of the billions of people in the world, God picked you to showcase His glory. This means you are special and set apart for His purposes.

2. Living According to His Will

Being chosen by God means we cannot live as we please. We are accountable to Him. Just as an employee follows the directives of their employer, you are chosen to live according to God’s standards. Throughout the Bible, those chosen by God—like Abraham, Noah, Joseph, and Paul—lived in obedience to His will. Genesis 12 recounts how Abraham obeyed God’s call to leave his homeland, exemplifying a life led by divine direction.

Living a Life of Integrity

1. Value of Character

Matthew 7:16-20 emphasizes the importance of bearing good fruit, which is a reflection of our character. Who we are in Christ is more important than what we do. If you are chosen, you must strive to live a life that reflects God’s holiness and blamelessness (Ephesians 1:4). Integrity is crucial; it is what you do when no one is watching. It involves aligning your actions with your words and maintaining honesty and uprightness.

2. Setting a Standard

As God’s chosen people, we are called to set a higher standard. The world should look to us as examples, not the other way around. We are called out of darkness into His marvelous light to be a beacon to others (1 Peter 2:9). Just as light attracts people in darkness, you are chosen to be a guiding light in a world that often lacks direction and purpose.

Impact Over Possession

Life is not about what we possess but the impact we make. Integrity, derived from the word integration, means being one with yourself—ensuring that your actions align with your professed beliefs. You are chosen to live a life of impact, influencing others through your character and integrity.

Finally, understanding that you are chosen by God should transform how you live your life. This divine selection is not just a privilege but a call to higher living, characterized by integrity and purpose. Embrace this truth, live according to God’s will, and set a standard that others will aspire to follow. Remember, you are chosen to be a marvel to your world, a trailblazer, and a beacon of God’s light.
