What Will Jesus Do When He Comes Back

The Biblical Prophecies of Christ's Return and the Establishment of His Eternal Kingdom

"Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen." - Revelation 1:7 (KJV)

The return of Jesus Christ is not speculation—it is the most certain event in human history yet to unfold. Every promise God has ever made has been fulfilled or will be fulfilled, and Jesus Himself guaranteed He would return: "I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also" (John 14:3, KJV). When He comes, He will not return as the humble carpenter from Nazareth or the suffering servant who bore our sins. He will return as the conquering King, the righteous Judge, and the eternal Lord who will transform heaven and earth forever.

But what exactly will Jesus do when He comes back? The Bible provides detailed prophecies about His return and the events that will follow. Understanding these prophecies is not just interesting theology—it is a matter of eternal life and death. Your readiness for His return determines your eternal destiny.

He Will Appear Visibly to Every Person on Earth

When Jesus ascended to heaven forty days after His resurrection, two angels appeared to the disciples and said, "This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven" (Acts 1:11, KJV). His return will be physical, visible, and unmistakable. There will be no secret rapture that some will miss or fail to recognize. Every human being alive at that moment will witness His coming.

The book of Revelation confirms this: "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him" (Revelation 1:7, KJV). Notice the universal scope—every eye will see Him. This includes believers and unbelievers, the righteous and the wicked, those who loved Him and those who rejected Him. No one will miss this event.

Jesus Himself described His return: "For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be" (Matthew 24:27, KJV). His coming will be as obvious and undeniable as lightning that illuminates the entire sky. There will be no confusion, no debate, no question about what is happening.

âś“ The Glory of His Appearing

"And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory" (Matthew 24:30, KJV). His return will be accompanied by overwhelming majesty and glory.

He Will Resurrect and Gather His People

One of the first acts of Jesus when He returns will be to resurrect all believers who have died throughout history and to transform all living believers. Paul describes this glorious event: "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord" (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, KJV).

This is the blessed hope of every believer—we will be reunited with loved ones who died in Christ, we will receive glorified bodies free from sin and suffering, and we will be with Jesus forever. Paul explains that "this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality" (1 Corinthians 15:53, KJV). In an instant, faster than the eye can blink, we will be transformed from mortal to immortal, from corruptible to incorruptible.

Jesus described this gathering: "And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other" (Matthew 24:31, KJV). No believer will be forgotten or left behind. Every person who has truly trusted in Christ—from every nation, tribe, tongue, and generation—will be gathered to Him.

He Will Judge the Living and the Dead

After gathering His people, Jesus will execute judgment on the earth. This is perhaps the most sobering aspect of His return. Peter declared, "And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead" (Acts 10:42, KJV). Jesus Himself confirmed this: "For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son" (John 5:22, KJV).

This judgment will be comprehensive and inescapable. Jesus described it vividly: "When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats" (Matthew 25:31-32, KJV). There will be two groups—the sheep (believers) and the goats (unbelievers)—and their eternal destinies will be sealed.

To the righteous, Jesus will say, "Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world" (Matthew 25:34, KJV). But to the wicked, He will pronounce the most terrifying words in Scripture: "Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels" (Matthew 25:41, KJV). This is not metaphor or exaggeration—it is the eternal judgment that awaits all who die in their sins without Christ.

! The Great White Throne Judgment

Revelation 20:11-15 describes the final judgment where all the dead stand before God and are judged according to their works. Those whose names are not written in the Lamb's Book of Life will be cast into the lake of fire—the second death. This is eternal separation from God's presence.

He Will Defeat All Evil and Establish His Kingdom

When Jesus returns, He will finally and completely defeat Satan, his demons, and all human evil. The Bible describes this victory: "And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns... And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron" (Revelation 19:11-12, 15, KJV).

This is Jesus the Warrior King, not Jesus the suffering servant. He will crush all rebellion, destroy all wickedness, and establish His righteous rule over the earth. Satan will be bound and thrown into the bottomless pit (Revelation 20:1-3), and ultimately into the lake of fire for all eternity (Revelation 20:10). Every enemy of God will be utterly vanquished.

After this great victory, Jesus will establish His millennial kingdom—a thousand-year reign of perfect peace, righteousness, and justice on earth. Isaiah prophesied about this glorious age: "And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more" (Isaiah 2:4, KJV). War will cease, justice will prevail, and the knowledge of the Lord will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.

âś“ The Restoration of All Things

Peter spoke of "the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began" (Acts 3:21, KJV). Jesus will restore creation to its original perfection, undoing the curse of sin that has plagued the world since the fall.

He Will Create a New Heaven and New Earth

After the millennial reign and the final judgment, Jesus will create a new heaven and a new earth where righteousness dwells forever. John saw this in his vision: "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea" (Revelation 21:1, KJV). The current creation, corrupted by sin and groaning under the curse, will be replaced by a perfect, eternal creation.

In this new creation, there will be no more death, sorrow, crying, or pain: "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away" (Revelation 21:4, KJV). Every consequence of sin will be completely eliminated. Paradise lost in Eden will be paradise fully restored—and infinitely better.

The New Jerusalem will descend from heaven, and God Himself will dwell with His people forever: "And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God" (Revelation 21:3, KJV). This is the ultimate fulfillment of God's purpose—intimate, unbroken fellowship between the Creator and His redeemed people for all eternity.

The Urgent Question: Will You Be Ready?

All of these glorious events await those who belong to Jesus Christ. But what about those who have rejected Him? What about those who have lived for themselves, ignored God's commands, and refused His grace? Jesus gave a sobering answer: "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity" (Matthew 7:21-23, KJV).

Notice that even religious activity, even ministry done in Jesus' name, is not enough if you don't truly know Him and belong to Him. The question is not whether you have done religious things, but whether you have a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ based on repentance and faith. Have you been born again? Has your heart been transformed by the Holy Spirit? Are you walking in obedience to His commands?

The Bible warns, "How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?" (Hebrews 2:3, KJV). There is no escape for those who reject Christ. When He returns, it will be too late to repent. The door of grace will close forever. Today is the day of salvation. Today is your opportunity to surrender your life to Jesus and secure your eternal destiny.

âś“ The Invitation Still Stands

Jesus said, "Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out" (John 6:37, KJV). No matter what you've done, no matter how far you've fallen, no matter how unworthy you feel—Jesus will receive you if you come to Him in genuine repentance and faith. But you must come now, while there is still time.

How to Prepare for His Return

Jesus repeatedly emphasized the importance of being ready for His return. He told parables about servants who were either faithful or unfaithful while waiting for their master, about bridesmaids who were either prepared or unprepared for the bridegroom, about stewards who either managed their master's resources wisely or squandered them. The message is unmistakable: Be ready!

Repent and Believe: The first step is genuine repentance—turning from your sins and turning to God. Jesus began His ministry by proclaiming, "Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Matthew 4:17, KJV). You must acknowledge your sin, confess it to God, and believe that Jesus died for your sins and rose again. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved" (Romans 10:9, KJV).

Live Holy Lives: Peter asked, "What manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God" (2 Peter 3:11-12, KJV). If you truly believe Jesus is coming back, your life should reflect holiness, purity, and devotion to Him. You cannot live for the world and claim to be ready for Christ's return.

Watch and Pray: Jesus commanded, "Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man" (Luke 21:36, KJV). Maintain spiritual vigilance. Don't become complacent or distracted by the cares of this life. Keep your focus on eternal things.

Share the Gospel: Time is short, and souls are perishing. Jesus said, "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come" (Matthew 24:14, KJV). Every believer has a responsibility to warn others and share the good news of salvation. Will you be found faithful in this mission when Jesus returns?

🙏 Prayer of Salvation and Readiness

"Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and that I need Your salvation. I believe You died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead. I repent of my sins and ask You to forgive me. I receive You now as my Savior and Lord. Please fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me live ready for Your return. Give me boldness to share Your gospel with others while there is still time. Come quickly, Lord Jesus. In Your mighty name I pray, Amen."

The Final Word: Choose This Day

Jesus is coming back—this is the most certain event in the future. When He comes, He will appear to every eye, gather His people, judge the living and the dead, defeat all evil, and establish His eternal kingdom. The question is not whether these things will happen, but whether you will be ready when they do.

Don't gamble with your eternal soul. Don't assume you have more time. Don't let pride, pleasure, or the pursuit of temporary things keep you from eternal life. Jesus warned, "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Mark 8:36-37, KJV).

The choice before you today is simple but eternal: Will you surrender your life to Jesus Christ and live ready for His return? Or will you reject His grace and face His judgment unprepared? Joshua's ancient challenge remains relevant: "Choose you this day whom ye will serve" (Joshua 24:15, KJV). Choose Jesus. Choose life. Choose eternity with God.

He is coming soon. The signs are multiplying. The stage is being set. The prophecies are being fulfilled. "He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus" (Revelation 22:20, KJV). Will you be ready when that day arrives?
