When Will Jesus Come Back
When Will Jesus Come Back
Understanding the Signs, Timing, and Preparation for Christ's Glorious Return
"But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." - Matthew 24:36 (KJV)
The question burning in countless hearts today is simple yet profound: When will Jesus come back? Throughout generations, believers have gazed at the skies, studied the Scriptures, and searched for signs of His imminent return. The Bible is crystal clear that Jesus Christ will return to earth—not as the humble carpenter from Nazareth, but as the conquering King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
While we cannot know the exact day or hour, the Bible provides us with signs to watch for and commands us to live in constant readiness. Jesus Himself declared, "Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come" (Matthew 24:42, KJV). His return is not a metaphor or spiritual concept—it is a literal, world-shaking event that will change everything forever.
The Absolute Certainty of Christ's Return
Jesus made an unbreakable promise to His disciples before ascending to heaven. He said, "I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also" (John 14:3, KJV). This is not wishful thinking or religious mythology—it is the guaranteed word of the living God. When Jesus ascended into heaven, two angels appeared to the disciples and confirmed this promise: "This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven" (Acts 1:11, KJV).
Throughout the New Testament, the certainty of Christ's return is reinforced repeatedly. Paul wrote to Titus about "that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ" (Titus 2:13, KJV). The book of Revelation culminates with Jesus declaring, "Surely I come quickly" (Revelation 22:20, KJV). This promise has sustained believers through persecution, suffering, and death for two thousand years.
âś“ The Hope That Sustains Us
In a world filled with wars, diseases, injustice, and chaos, Christ's return is the ultimate hope for believers. He will make all things right, judge all evil, and establish His eternal kingdom of peace and righteousness.
The Timing Nobody Knows
Throughout history, many have attempted to predict the exact date of Jesus' return. Every single prediction has failed because Scripture is absolutely clear: "But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father" (Mark 13:32, KJV). Anyone who claims to know the specific date of Christ's return is contradicting the plain teaching of Jesus Himself.
Jesus compared His coming to a thief in the night: "The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night" (1 Thessalonians 5:2, KJV). This means His return will be sudden, unexpected, and catch many unprepared. Peter warned that scoffers would arise in the last days saying, "Where is the promise of his coming?" (2 Peter 3:4, KJV), but he assured believers that "the Lord is not slack concerning his promise" (2 Peter 3:9, KJV). God's timing is perfect, even when we don't understand it.
While we cannot know the exact time, Jesus gave us signs to watch for that would indicate His return is drawing near. These signs are like birth pangs—they increase in frequency and intensity as the time approaches.
The Biblical Signs to Watch For
Jesus provided His disciples with specific signs that would precede His return. In Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21, He outlined what believers should watch for. These signs include:
Wars and Rumors of Wars: Jesus said, "And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet" (Matthew 24:6, KJV). The 20th and 21st centuries have witnessed unprecedented global conflicts, with weapons capable of destroying all life on earth.
Earthquakes and Natural Disasters: "For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles" (Mark 13:8, KJV). Scientific data confirms that seismic activity has increased dramatically in recent decades.
False Prophets and Deception: Jesus warned, "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect" (Matthew 24:24, KJV). Religious deception is rampant today, with countless false teachers leading people astray.
âś“ The Gospel Preached Worldwide
One of the most significant signs is that "this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come" (Matthew 24:14, KJV). Modern technology has made this possible in ways previous generations could never imagine.
Apostasy and Falling Away: Paul warned that before Christ returns, there would be a great falling away from the faith: "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first" (2 Thessalonians 2:3, KJV). We see this apostasy accelerating in our generation as churches abandon biblical truth.
The Rise of Lawlessness: Jesus prophesied, "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold" (Matthew 24:12, KJV). Moral decay, rejection of God's law, and the erosion of biblical values characterize our present age.
How Will Jesus Return
The manner of Christ's return is described in vivid detail throughout Scripture. His coming will be unmistakable, visible to all, and accompanied by overwhelming glory and power.
Visible to Every Eye: "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him" (Revelation 1:7, KJV). This will not be a secret event or spiritual metaphor—every person on earth will witness His return.
With Power and Great Glory: "And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory" (Matthew 24:30, KJV). The humble carpenter will return as the mighty warrior King.
With the Sound of a Trumpet: "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first" (1 Thessalonians 4:16, KJV). Believers who have died will be resurrected, and living believers will be transformed.
! The Great Separation
Jesus will separate the sheep from the goats, the righteous from the wicked. "When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory" (Matthew 25:31, KJV). This will be the day of final judgment.
Living in Readiness for His Return
Jesus repeatedly emphasized the importance of being ready for His return. He told parables about servants waiting for their master, bridesmaids preparing for the bridegroom, and stewards managing their master's resources faithfully. The message is clear: We must live every day in expectation of His coming.
Watch and Pray: "Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man" (Luke 21:36, KJV). Spiritual vigilance and prayer are essential for readiness.
Pursue Holiness: Peter asked, "What manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God" (2 Peter 3:11-12, KJV). Our lives should reflect the purity and righteousness of the One we serve.
Share the Gospel Urgently: Time is short, and souls are perishing. "And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire" (Jude 1:22-23, KJV). Every believer has a responsibility to warn others and share the good news of salvation.
Keep Your Faith Strong: Jesus asked a sobering question: "Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?" (Luke 18:8, KJV). Will He find you faithful when He returns?
The Ultimate Question: Are You Ready?
When Jesus returns, it will be too late to prepare. The door of grace will close, and eternal destinies will be sealed forever. For those who have rejected Christ, His return brings terror and judgment. But for those who love Him, it brings unspeakable joy and the fulfillment of our deepest longing.
If you have never surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, today is your day of salvation. "Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:2, KJV). Don't gamble with eternity. Don't assume you have more time. Don't let pride or sin keep you from the Savior who loves you.
The Bible promises, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10:13, KJV). Confess your sins, believe in your heart that Jesus died for you and rose again, and commit your life to following Him. This is not religion—this is relationship. This is not works—this is grace. This is not slavery—this is freedom.
🙏 Prayer for Readiness
"Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord. I believe He died for my sins and rose from the dead. I repent of my sins and ask You to forgive me. I surrender my life to You and ask You to be my Savior and Lord. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me live ready for Your return. Come quickly, Lord Jesus. In Your mighty name I pray, Amen."
The Final Warning and Promise
Jesus concluded His revelation with these words: "He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus" (Revelation 22:20, KJV). This is both a warning and a promise. For the unbeliever, it is a warning to repent before it's too late. For the believer, it is a promise that our redemption draws near.
Don't be caught unprepared. Don't let the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, or the pleasures of sin dull your spiritual senses. Live with eternity in view. Live with heaven as your goal. Live with Jesus as your first love.
The world may mock, skeptics may scoff, and false teachers may mislead—but Jesus is coming back. The question is not "if" but "when." And when He comes, will He find you faithful? Will you hear Him say, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:21, KJV), or will you face eternal separation from His presence?
Choose wisely. Choose today. Choose Jesus. "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Mark 8:36, KJV).
