Why Should Following Jesus Be So Important?
The Most Important Decision of Your Life
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." - John 14:6
If you've ever wondered why Christians seem so passionate about Jesus, or if you've questioned whether following Christ is really that important, this message is for you. The truth is, following Jesus isn't just important—it's the most crucial decision you will ever make, with consequences that extend far beyond this life.
1. Because You Have a Soul Problem
Let's be honest about something most people don't want to face: you have a sin problem. The Bible declares, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). This isn't God trying to make you feel bad—it's God revealing the truth about our condition.
Consider this: Have you ever lied? Stolen anything (even something small)? Looked at someone with lust? Been jealous, hateful, or disobedient to your parents?
If you answered yes to any of these, you've broken God's moral law. And the consequence? "The wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23). This means eternal separation from God in hell—not because God is mean, but because He is perfectly just and holy.
2. Because Jesus Is the Only Solution
Here's where the gospel becomes incredibly beautiful: Jesus Christ is God's solution to your sin problem. Jesus didn't come to earth as a great teacher or moral example—He came as the perfect sacrifice for sin.
✨ Perfect Life
Jesus lived the perfect life you could never live, never sinning once.
đź’” Perfect Death
He died the death you deserved to die, taking God's wrath upon Himself.
🎉 Perfect Resurrection
Three days later, Jesus rose from the dead, proving He had conquered sin, death, and hell. This is why Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die" (John 11:25).
3. Because Your Eternity Depends On It
This life is temporary, but your soul is eternal. Jesus spoke more about hell than anyone else in the Bible—not to scare people, but to warn them of the reality that awaits those who reject God's offer of salvation.
The Two Destinations
Without Jesus
Eternal separation from God, conscious torment, no hope, no peace, no love—forever.
With Jesus
Eternal life with God, perfect joy, no more pain or sorrow—forever.
Jesus said, "What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?" (Mark 8:36). No achievement, relationship, or pleasure in this life is worth losing your soul for eternity.
4. Because Life Has No Real Meaning Without Him
Apart from God, life becomes a series of temporary distractions from the emptiness within. You might achieve success, enjoy pleasures, and build relationships, but deep down, there's still that nagging question: "Is this all there is?"
Jesus Gives You:
- Purpose: You were created to know God and glorify Him
- Identity: You are a beloved child of God, not defined by your failures
- Hope: No matter how dark life gets, God works all things for good
- Peace: True peace that surpasses understanding, even in trials
- Love: Unconditional love that will never leave or forsake you
As Augustine said, "You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you." The emptiness you feel can only be filled by the One who created you.
5. Because Tomorrow Is Not Guaranteed
The Bible warns, "Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring" (Proverbs 27:1). Death is the great equalizer—it comes to the rich and poor, young and old, prepared and unprepared.
What if tonight was your last night? What if this message is God's final call to you? "Today is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:2).
Don't gamble with your eternal soul. Don't assume you have more time. God's grace is available to you right now, but it won't always be. "Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near" (Isaiah 55:6).
The Decision Is Yours
God loves you deeply and has made a way for you to be saved from sin and have eternal life. But He won't force you—the choice is yours. Will you continue in rebellion against God, or will you surrender your life to Jesus Christ today?
How to Be Saved
1. Acknowledge that you are a sinner in need of salvation
2. Believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose again
3. Call upon Jesus to save you and surrender your life to Him
"Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" - Romans 10:13
Pray This Prayer
