Life's adversities test faith revealing whether belief rests on temporary circumstances or eternal truth. "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). Jesus promised tribulation in world while offering peace and victory through Him. Faith during adversity differs fundamentally from natural optimism or positive thinking. "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1). Biblical faith possesses substance and evidence despite invisibility. "For we walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7). Walking by faith means not depending on visible circumstances. "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him" (Hebrews 11:6). "But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison" (Genesis 39:21). God remained with Joseph even in prison showing mercy and favor. "And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God? But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive" (Genesis 50:19-20). "We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed" (2 Corinthians 4:8-9). Paul experienced troubles without being overcome. "Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep" (2 Corinthians 11:24-25). "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us" (Romans 8:18). Remembering God's benefits prevents forgetting His faithfulness. "I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings" (Psalm 77:11-12). Deliberately remembering and meditating on God's works strengthens faith. "And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching" (Hebrews 10:24-25). Adversity produces testimony glorifying God and encouraging others. "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death" (Revelation 12:11). Overcoming includes testimony's power. "For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day" (2 Corinthians 4:16). Despite outward deterioration inward renewal continues daily. "That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge; Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you" (1 Corinthians 1:5-6). Enrichment in everything confirms Christ's testimony. "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear" (1 Peter 3:15). Believers should explain hope's reason. Faith persisting through adversity creates powerful testimony demonstrating God's reality and faithfulness to watching world.

Perseverance through adversity results in eternal rewards. "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory" (2 Corinthians 4:17). Temporary affliction produces eternal glory. "Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him" (James 1:12). Enduring temptation brings crown of life. "Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing" (2 Timothy 4:8). Crown of righteousness awaits faithful believers. "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us" (Romans 8:18). Present suffering cannot compare with future glory. Eternal perspective transforms adversity from meaningless suffering into purposeful refinement producing lasting rewards.

Ultimate victory assures believers of complete deliverance and glorification. "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away" (Revelation 21:4). Future includes no tears, death, sorrow, crying, or pain. "Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 1:8). God will confirm believers blameless until Christ's return. "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6). God completes work He begins. "Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy" (Jude 1:24). God keeps believers from falling presenting them faultless with joy. Faith's ultimate victory culminates in complete deliverance from all adversity's effects when Christ returns or believers enter His presence.
